The First Eternal Gem– Eternal Blaze
In life, Blaze was much more than the Golden Gate
Fire Department's Dalmatian. She was a companion during late night
watches and the greeting committee waiting at the door when the trucks
returned. She taught thousands of schoolchildren how to "stop,
drop and roll" during fire safety sessions and she has delighted
nursing home residents by balancing dog biscuits on her nose. In October
2000, for the first time in 14 years, this one-time abandoned and
abused puppy, who was adopted by the firefighters and schoolchildren,
was not at her post when the firetrucks returned. Due to her failing
health, Blaze was put down by her veterinarian. Her community family
wanted a way to always remember her and the joy she brought to them.
They deserved something special and so did she.
We are honored that Blaze serves as the first companion animal to
be memorialized by Eternal Gem. The memory of this dedicated friend
and veteran mascot now lives on forever.
When the fire trucks return to the station, Blaze will always be there
to greet them. |
